Happy New Year!
I love New Years! As I said in an earlier post, I love symbolic new beginnings! …the start of a new year, blank calendar, 365 days of opportunity– 366 this year, being a leap year and all…I feel like I should be writing something profound, but my brain just doesn’t have any profound thoughts just now so dear friends and readers I will have to settle for a some random and disjointed thoughts, a few words from others and maybe a picture or 2…· On this date in herstory: January 1, 1847 — Michigan became the first state – the first government in the English-speaking world – to abolish capital punishment (for all crimes except treason). This was done by a vote of the legislature, and became a part of the state’s constitution until 1964.
