Happy New Year

Happy New Year!

I love New Years! As I said in an earlier post, I love symbolic new beginnings!  …the start of a new year, blank calendar, 365 days of opportunity– 366 this year, being a leap year and all…I feel like I should be writing something profound, but my brain just doesn’t have any profound thoughts just now so dear friends and readers I will have to settle for a some random and disjointed thoughts, a few words from others and maybe a picture or 2…·         On this date in herstory: January 1, 1847 — Michigan became the first state – the first government in the English-speaking world – to abolish capital punishment (for all crimes except treason). This was done by a vote of the legislature, and became a part of the state’s constitution until 1964.

·          “Suppose you had the revolution you are talking and dreaming about. Suppose your side had won, and you had the kind of society that you wanted. How would you live, you personally, in that society? Start living that way now!” – Paul Goodman (1911-1972)

·          “To live now as we think human beings should live, in defiance of all that is bad around us, is itself a marvelous victory.”  Howard Zinn
